Terms & Conditions - the basics

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern all lessons, services, bookings, and website use provided by John Guest Guitar School (“we”, “us”, “our”). By accessing our website, enrolling in lessons, or making a booking, you agree to the following Terms.

1. Services Provided

We provide:

Private 1-to-1 guitar lessons
Online guitar lessons
School-based lessons
Music theory instruction
Practice guidance, learning resources, and curriculum-based materials

All lessons are taught by John Guest or an approved tutor working on behalf of John Guest Guitar School.

2. Lesson Bookings

2.1 Lessons may be booked through:

Our website
Email
Phone
Direct agreement with a school

2.2 Lessons are confirmed once:

A time and date are agreed
Payment arrangements are in place
Any required forms or agreements are completed

2.3 For school lessons, scheduling is subject to school timetables and facility availability.

3. Payments

3.1 Lesson fees must be paid in accordance with the agreed schedule (weekly, monthly, per term, or as arranged).
3.2 School-based lessons are billed directly to the school unless otherwise agreed.
3.3 Private and online lesson payments must be made before or on the day of the lesson.
3.4 Late payments may result in paused lessons until the balance is cleared.

4. Cancellations & Missed Lessons

4.1 24 hours’ notice is required for lesson cancellations.
4.2 Lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice may be charged at full rate.
4.3 If the tutor cancels a lesson, a rescheduled lesson or refund will be offered.
4.4 School lessons missed due to student absence (unless authorised by the school) are still chargeable.
4.5 Lessons missed due to school closures, school events, or timetable changes may still be billable unless agreed otherwise with the school.

5. Online Lessons

5.1 Students/parents are responsible for having a working device, stable internet connection, and functional audio/video setup.
5.2 We cannot be held responsible for technical issues on the student's side.
5.3 If technical issues prevent the tutor from teaching, the session will be rescheduled.

6. Student Responsibilities

Students are expected to:

Arrive on time (in person or online)
Have their guitar tuned and ready
Bring required books/materials
Practice regularly between lessons
Treat equipment, tutors, and school facilities with respect

7. Tutor Responsibilities

We agree to:

Provide professional, reliable tuition
Tailor lessons to each student’s level and goals
Maintain a safe and encouraging learning environment
Follow safeguarding policies in all teaching contexts
Communicate clearly regarding lesson times and availability

8. Safeguarding & Child Protection

8.1 All tutors working for John Guest Guitar School hold an enhanced DBS check.
8.2 Lessons in schools follow the school’s safeguarding procedures.
8.3 Online lessons involving children must be supervised by a parent or guardian within the household.
8.4 We reserve the right to end a lesson immediately if unsafe or inappropriate behaviour occurs.

9. Health & Safety

9.1 Students must use their instruments safely and follow tutor guidance.
9.2 We are not responsible for injury caused by improper instrument use or unsafe environments during lessons (e.g., poor seating posture, cluttered rooms, etc.).

10. Materials & Intellectual Property

10.1 Lesson materials, books, worksheets, videos, and resources provided by us remain the intellectual property of John Guest Guitar School.
10.2 These materials are for personal student use only and must not be shared, reproduced, or distributed without permission.

11. Website Use

By using this website, you agree that:

We reserve the right to update or change content without notice

12. Photo & Media Consent

12.1 Photos or videos of students will only be used for promotional purposes with written parental consent.

Payments are missed
A student consistently fails to attend
Behaviour is inappropriate
A school partnership ends

Students/parents may end lessons at any time with reasonable notice.

14.1 We are not liable for loss, damage, or injury during lessons, rehearsals, school sessions, or at-home practice.
14.2 You participate in lessons at your own risk.

15. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. Continued use of our services indicates acceptance of the updated Terms.
